Nifty and Sensex Closing Today with Top NSE/BSE Gainers and Losers


The Sensex today ended up 130.55 points to end at 21164.52. 

The Nifty closed at 6299.15, up 47.45 points on the October series expiry day. About 1306 shares advanced, 1157 shares declined, and 176 shares were unchanged.  It is highest closing level in three years.

Bank Nifty closed up 2 percent from previous close. It was all in all a day for the state-run banks as Bank Of Baroda, Bank of India and Union Bank saw asset quality stabilise in the September quarter. Oil & gas and metals too joined the party, but pharma stocks were under selling pressure.

The Nifty recovered some of the day’s losses and closed above psychological 6,150 level even as the European markets remained weak. According to technical analysts, the market is showing signs of weakness and hence traders should be cautious with their long positions.

The rupee held on to some of the intraday gains as the US dollar turned weak against other global currencies. The partially convertible rupee was at 61.49, up 16 paise, against its previous close of 61.65.

The 50-share index ended at 6178.35, down 24.45 points or 0.39 per cent. The index touched intraday high of 6,217.95 and a low of 6,116.60 in trade today.

The S&P BSE Sensex closed at 20767.88, down 97.09 points.

The Sensex i.e. a 30-share index closed today on 22nd October at 19,902.07, up 384.92 points or 1.97 per cent. It touched a high of 19,929.24 and a low of 19,583.97 in today's trading. 

The Nifty ended at 5,909.70, up 129.65 points or 2.2 per cent. The index touched intraday high of 5,917.60 and a low of 5,802.70.

Asian equities tread water on Tuesday following slim gains in global markets overnight and as investors stayed on the sidelines before the US September jobs report.

China's Shanghai Composite was down 0.25 percent or 5.49 points at 2,223.75 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng shed 0.64 percent or 149.24 points at 23,288.91.




Japan's Nikkei was down 0.11 percent or 15.49 points at 14,678.08 and South Korea's Seoul Composite shed 0.23 percent or 4.79 points at 2,048.22.



Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted fell 0.12 percent or 10.11 points at 8,409.21 while Singapore's Straits Times rose 0.27 percent or 8.61 points at 3,204.37.

The BSE benchmark Sensex surrendered its early losses and was trading over 15 points up in morning trade on Tuesday.



At 11.06 AM, Sensex was up 12.19 points at 20906.08. Similarly, Nifty was up 3.80 points at 6208.75 during the same time.



In early trade, the BSE Sensex slipped from almost three-year high by falling over 31 points as funds and retail investors booked profits after recent gains amid a weak trend in other Asian markets.



The National Stock Exchange index Nifty also fell by 9.30 points, or 0.15 per cent, to 6,195.65 in early trade.



In the Asian region, Japan's Nikkei Index was down 0.11 per cent, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng index was up 0.55 per cent in early trade.



The US Dow Jones Industrial Average shed 0.05 per cent in Monday's trade.

The Indian markets witnessed a stellar rally on the last trading day of the week as investors turned bullish on hopes that the Quantitative Easing in the US will continue in 2014. Sentiment from China's economic growth also boosted market by 7.8 per cent.

The Nifty ended at 6189.35 up 143.50 points or 2.31 per cent. The index touched intraday high of 6,201.45 and a low of 6,070.90. The index shut shop near 2013 high of 6187.3 made on May 17, 2013.

The S&P BSE Sensex closed at 20882.89, up 467.38 points or 2.29 per cent. It touched a high of 20,932.23 and a low of 20,486.78 in trade today.

The S&P BSE Midcap Index was up 0.99 per cent and the S&P BSE Smallcap Index gained 0.70 per cent.
